Hi everybody! I'm a ninth grade Girl Scout from New York. For my silver award project, I have been helping the Hat Box Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that distributes handmade hats to cancer patients around the country. The Hat Box Foundation was started in honor of a fellow Girl Scout, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in the summer of 2007. Her mother's friend's friend started the Foundation then, and they are now donating hats to almost one hundred hospitals in forty-four states. The Hat Box Foundation's website is www.hatboxfoundation.org. The website explains who they are, what they do, why they do, where they help, and how to donate financially or hat-wise, as well as some knitting and crocheting links. I decided to set up this website in order to spread awareness for the Hat Box Foundation, and to encourage others to make hats. Here you can find hat patterns, advice, and instructions for if you don't know how. I'm hoping that you will donate to the Hat Box Foundation or a similar cause, but if you just want to make a hat, that's all right too. Please don't sell any hats from this site. They should be available to everyone, not just those who can pay. |
